31-year-old suspect with deceased couple’s car was arrested in Zamdela

SASOLBURG - Free State police say a 31-year-old suspect driving around with a deceased couple’s silver Corsa bakkie was arrested in Zamdela, Sasolburg. This comes after police arrested a 15-year-old girl and four of her friends in connection with the murder of the girl’s mother and stepfather. Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Sam Makhele yesterday said the bodies of the murdered couple were found near Lovedale Plot in Maokeng, near Kroonstad. Makhele said a joint venture with various police units led to the deceased couple’s house in Constantiapark, where bloodstains were found. He said the “elderly couple” had been stabbed. The teenage daughter and three of her friends, aged between 15 and 29, were arrested afterward. Further investigation led the team to Vereeniging and Zamdela, Sasolburg, where the 31-year-old suspect, last seen with the couple’s bakkie, was arrested. Makhele said investigations to locate the vehicle were continuing. He added the motive for the attack had not yet been established.
