VANDERBIJLPARK - The Vanderbijlpark SAPS arrested five suspects for robbing a jewellery store, in the Vaal Mall on Monday, 29 July. Allegedly, the suspects entered the store posing as ordinary customers before pulling out what appeared to be a firearm and pointing it at the shop workers. They then bound the workers with cable ties and stole valuable jewellery before fleeing the scene. One employee managed to free themselves and alert mall security. Security personnel, along with car guards, swiftly closed all exits, and Fidelity ADT Vaal responded rapidly. The suspects were caught near their getaway vehicle, a red Polo, as they attempted to flee. It was later revealed that the firearm used in the robbery was a toy gun. All stolen jewellery and money were recovered, and the suspects, two males and three females, will appear in court today.
Sergeant Sabelo Sigcu from Vanderbijlpark Police confirmed that a business robbery case has been registered, and the investigation continues.
