VAAL TRIANGLE - The Competition Commission says it has received a commitment from all major airlines not to inflate fares, as a result of the grounding of Comair. The commission met with the leadership of South African Airways, FlySafair, Airlink, and Lift yesterday, to engage them on the implications of Comair’s decision to suspend British Airways and Kulula flights due to funding challenges. Competition Commissioner, Thembinkosi Bonakele, told eNCA they urged airlines not to take advantage of this situation. Meanwhile, Comair Limited is calling on all passengers who had booked flights on Kulula or British Airways to apply for refunds. Comair CEO Glenn Orsmond says the move to ground all flights was unavoidable and unfortunate. Orsmond says the indefinite suspension was caused by a liquidity crisis.
