VANDERBIJLPARK - The case against the four people accused of kidnapping 6-year-old Amy’Leigh de Jager in front of Laerskool Kollegepark in Vanderbijlpark in September, continued in the Vanderbijlpark magistrate’s court yesterday. The accused, Tharina Human, 27, Pieter van Zyl, 50, Laetitia Nel, 40, and Bafokeng Molemohi, 24, made a brief court appearance. Human, Van Zyl and Bafokeng have been remanded in custody, while Nel’s bail of R25,000 has been extended. Her bail conditions include reporting to the Vanderbijlpark police station every Wednesday. She is not allowed to contact state witnesses. The case against the four was previously postponed to allow for further investigations and to obtain DNA results. State prosecutor Luanda Ngcobo yesterday asked that the matter be postponed to February 25 to await a high court trial date. She also said the indictment for the accused was available and furnished to their defence teams. According to the indictment, the four accused allegedly contravened the provisions of Section 18(2)(A) of the Riotous Assemblies Act 17 of 1956 for conspiracy to commit kidnapping, alternatively attempted kidnapping, kidnapping and attempted extortion.
