ArcelorMittal SA to assist Emfuleni with R3 million to improve service delivery

VAAL TRIANGLE - The Emfuleni Local Municipality Mayor, Councillor Sipho Radebe, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ArcelorMittal SA to improve services to Vaal residents. ELM said in a statement they signed the MoU with the steelmaker on Friday, when the company committed to make R3 million available toward assisting the municipality. Emfuleni said the parties agreed to work together to eradicate potholes and improve municipal services and infrastructure in Emfuleni. The municipality said the September 1984 Vaal Uprisings, together with the lives lost during the Boipatong situation, formed the foundation for this agreement. ArcelorMittal SA CEO Kobus Venster has made the funds available and committed to more resources for the future while Emfuleni will dedicate expertise, tools of trade and the labour force in the new partnership. Radebe said this is the first of the building blocks towards a Comprehensive Social Compact among all Social Partners in the Vaal.
