The Energy Council of South Africa says the energy crisis is more detrimental to the Vaal Triangle and the rest of South Africa's economy than the COVID-19 pandemic. The council's chief executive, James Mackay, says many companies will be forced to further cut jobs as the country's energy situation deteriorates. Mackay says the impact on the economy as a result of the energy crisis is immeasurable.
