Concerns over service providers not being paid by private companies.
Numsa says it is concerned that some private companies are refusing to pay service providers. The union's national spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola says this results in more than 30,000 security guards not having access to medical insurance and other employment benefits. Hlubi-Majola says companies deduct money for these benefits from workers' salaries, but this is not paid to the service providers. She says at least R50-million worth of deductions have not been paid. Hlubi-Majola says the companies are breaking the law by not paying the money over and this basically amounts to fraud.
