COPE wants Free State municipalities probed for fraud and corruption

METSIMAHOLO - The Congress of the People is calling on the National Prosecuting Authority and the Hawks to investigate all municipalities in the Free State, including the Metsimaholo Local Municipality in the Vaal Triangle, for corruption and fraud. No municipality in the Free State received a clean audit, and the irregular expenditure identified in the previous year was not investigated at 125 municipalities. Cope’s Dennis Bloem says the municipalities are characterized by a lack of financial controls and accountability. According to the Auditor-General of South Africa's report, the Metsimaholo Local Municipality received a "qualified with findings" outcome.
