COVID-19 cases increase by more than 140 in SA, at least 6 cases in Sedibeng

VAAL TRIANGLE - The Health Minister, Dr. Zweli Mkhize, announced that as of today, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Africa is 2,415. This is an increase of more than 140 cases from yesterday’s statistics. According to Mkhize, the total number of tests conducted to date in more than 87-thousand. Gauteng is still the country’s epicenter with more than 909 confirmed cases.

The Sedibeng area has over the weekend been reported to have six confirmed coronavirus cases, which makes it the region with the lowest number of the Covid-19 in Gauteng. This was revealed in a breakdown of figures by the Gauteng health department on Saturday morning. The spokesperson for Health MEC Bandile Masuku, Kwara Kekana, said in a statement the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases for Gauteng was 801 as of 10 April 2020 with the number of recoveries at 157. By Saturday, the number of people who tested positive for Covid-19 was 440 in Johannesburg; 111 in Ekurhuleni; 90 in Tshwane; 12 in the West Rand; and six in Sedibeng. The Gauteng Department of Health has added a Covid-19 feature to its Mpilo-Healthcare mobile app which offers self-screening to its users. The health ministry urged all those with handsets to use the app to ensure there’s seamless and easy screening by the public. The ministry said it will be able to get that information and communicate with those that they think need to be tested.
