De Deur police unit searching for rape suspect since April

VEREENIGING - The Vereeniging SAPS says the De Deur Family violence, Child protection and Sexual Offences Unit is searching for a suspect wanted for rape since April this year. Police spokesperson, Captain Fikile Funda, yesterday said in a statement the complainant alleges that on Saturday 22 April 2022 at about 10:00 she was walking through an open veld on her way to school in Thulamntwana, De-deur, when she was approached by an unknown black male. Funda says the suspect allegedly grabbed her by the hand, told her not to struggle and proceeded to take her deeper into the veld. He took out a knife, undressed her forcefully, raped her and then ran away. Funda says the suspect is about 25 years of age, dark in complexion, short in height and of medium build. He speaks Zulu with a Tsonga accent. Funda urged anyone who might know the person to contact the investigating officer Sergeant Billy Pule on 082 614 5134, or the nearest police station, Crime Stop on the toll free number 08600 10111 or on MYSAPS APP which can be downloaded on smartphones.
