EFF MP’s assault case reportedly dismissed in Vanderbijlpark

VANDERBIJLPARK - The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Sedibeng says the assault case against its MP Kenny Motsamai has been dismissed at the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s court this morning. The EFF member was granted bail on Friday and was due to appear in court today after he was arrested during protests against Clicks in Evaton, Sedibeng, on Tuesday morning. Police have since confirmed that Motsamai was out on parole after spending almost 28 years in prison for killing a traffic officer in Rustenburg in 1989. Brig Vishnu Naidoo on Friday said the suspect was involved in altercation with police after which he resisted arrest. Naidoo said during the scuffle, the door of the Clicks broke and Motsamai injured himself on the door. Naidoo said Motsamai was the only one who was arrested during the Evaton incident but at least nine other people were arrested nationwide for unrest that broke out at Clicks stores amid protests led by the EFF. At the time, Naidoo said he faces charges of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest. However, according to the EFF Sedibeng Twitter page, the case docket was not found this morning and therefore the case against Motsamai has been dismissed. However, the 90.6 FM News Team has not received any confirmation from the SAPS on this yet.
