ELM encourages residents to apply for its arrears incentive scheme before 31 August deadline

VAAL TRIANGLE - Emfuleni account holders who are behind on their payments are reminded that not much time is left for them to settle their accounts with a discount. The Emfuleni Local Municipality has warned that there is little more than a week left before the deadline of 31 August to make use of the ELM Incentive Scheme. Emfuleni said the ELM Incentives Scheme is a consumer relief program aimed at writing-off outstanding debt to help pay a percentage of the arrears for residential customers and businesses. The municipality announced earlier this year that residential account holders with arrears dating back to 31st May 2021 will qualify for 50% discount while business account holders will qualify for 30% discount upon approval of application. Consumers are notified that the incentive scheme is limited to consumers with arrears of more than 90 days and this does not include traffic fines. Eligible account holders may also receive assistance with future payments. Failure for residential account holders and businesses to settle the accounts in the prescribed periods, or if there is a default on one payment, the 50% write-off will be uplifted. Residents are encouraged to visit the Vereeniging Rates and Taxes Office or Vanderbijlpark Customer Care Office today to apply.
