ELM sets record straight on payment of salaries

EMFULENI - The Emfuleni Local Municipality has denied that it paid almost R1 million in four months to two administrators. Acting Manager: Media Relations, Makhosonke Sangweni, said the reports stating that Emfuleni has spent R 893 948,000 in four months for the payment of two administrators’ salaries are unfortunate and misleading. Sangweni said Municipal Manager, Mr. Lucky Leseane, and the Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Andile Dyakala, categorically state that all the administrators deployed to the municipality by the Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements, Lebogang Maile, are paid by the Gauteng Provincial Government. He said the municipality continues to receive support from the provincial government, with MEC Maile recently announcing he would be deploying three more administrators to reinforce the administration currently working in ELM. Sangweni said these efforts, and many others, are part of the provincial government’s intervention in ELM, as part of Section 139 (1) (a) and (b) of the Constitution.
