Emfuleni Local Municipality has spent over R200-million on service providers
VAAL TRIANGLE - The DA says Vaal Triangle residents are still bearing the brunt of poor service delivery, although the Emfuleni Local Municipality has spent over R200-million on service providers within a period of 36 months. The municipality’s Metsi a Lekoa unit has also spent R65-million on overtime in the past four years, but there is nothing to show for it. In a statement, the DA says this information was revealed to the party by the Gauteng MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Lebogang Maile, in a written reply to some of their grievances. There are also allegations that some of the companies paid to provide services to the struggling municipality are owned by members of the ANC. The DA suggests that the outsourcing of service providers be scrapped at ELM and that in-house resources be used instead to fix the persistent water and sewer issues. DA spokesperson Kingston Chabalala says there is no proof of how this money was actually spent.
