VAAL TRIANGLE - The Emfuleni Local Municipality issued a notice last night, saying it is aware of the water shortages currently affecting many areas in the Vaal Triangle, including Evaton, Palm Springs and Sebokeng Zones 3 and 7. According to ELM, the cause of the water shortage is due to a cable malfunction at the Sonlandpark substation, affecting the water pumping process at the Langerand reservoir. Reservoir levels have dropped below 10% and as a result pumping water to higher laying areas is nearly impossible. The municipality says the electricity department has restored power supply to the reservoir early yesterday morning, but due to high demand water supply stabilization remains a challenge. ELM advises the residents of Evaton and Sebokeng who still have water supply to use it sparingly, as to help the reservoir recharge speedily and normalize water supply in all affected areas.
