VAAL TRIANGLE - The Emfuleni Local Municipality earlier this week unveiled a new fleet of vehicles at the Duncanville depot. ELM said in a statement a total of 15 bakkies and nine Polo sedan vehicles were acquired through the National Treasury Transversal Contract RT57-2019 to augment the municipality’s existing overstretched fleet. The 24 vehicles worth over R2,640,000 will be strategically allocated to key departments to enhance the municipality’s ability to better respond to service delivery challenges. Emfuleni said the 15 bakkies will be utilised within the Electricity, Waste, Water and Sanitation Departments, while the nine sedan vehicles will be assigned to the Traffic Department to reinforce the critical need of public safety in the municipality. The acting Municipal Manager, Thabo Ndlovu welcomed the launch of the new fleet and said that the purchase of vehicles is a positive step towards realizing objectives of the Financial Recovery Plan (FRP). He believes that this move by the municipality is finance well spent as it will ensure that services are delivered more efficiently. The Fleet Department encouraged employees who will be using the new vehicles to take good care of them. The department will also be procuring additional vehicles through a R 50 000 000 Capital Budget in the near future, details of which Emfuleni said will still be shared with residents.
