VAAL TRIANGLE - Vaal Triangle motorists are urged to make alternative traveling arrangements as the entire N3 Toll Route is closed to all traffic between Cedara, in KwaZulu-Natal, and Heidelberg, in Gauteng. The road is closed in the interest of all motorists’ safety and security. Motorists are strongly advised to avoid the N3 in its entirety until further notice.
In response to the ongoing riots, President Cyril Ramaphosa says government will take action to protect every person in this country against the threat of violence, intimidation, theft, and looting. KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng have seen persistent public violence in the past few days, in which shops have been looted and some set alight. Addressing the nation yesterday evening, Ramaphosa said they will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute those who perpetrate these actions and will ensure that they face the full might of the law. He said about 489 people were arrested in the two provinces so far. He also confirmed that the South African National Defence Force had been deployed to help the police restore calm and order.
