Eskom technicians attending to Sebokeng substation power outage

VAAL TRIANGLE - Eskom said in a statement issued just after 11:00 this morning that their technicians are currently on site at the Sebokeng substation in the Vaal Triangle, following a major supply interruption caused by a burnt transformer. The power utility said the incident occurred last night, 18 July 2022 at around 21:42. It said the shutdown at the substation has left customers in Golden Gardens, Sebokeng Zones 10, 13, 14, 17, 18, 21 & 24, as well as Polokong without power supply. The power utility is conducting a site assessment to determine the extent of the damages, resources and material required for repair work, and to restore supply to the affected customers. Eskom assured customers that although it cannot determine time of restoration yet, it is working hard to ensure that the power supply is restored as soon as possible. Customers are advised to treat all electrical appliances as live at all times during the outage.

Last night, Emfuleni councillor Elize Aucamp said in a posted update that the fire at the Eskom Masiza substation also affected the Sonland substation. At the time she said the ring is open and they are busy isolating. Aucamp said once this has been done they are positive that they will be able to switch on Sonlandpark, Falconridge and surrounding areas. No time could be given for switching on.
