Explosion at Munic substation leaves Vanderbijlpark without power

VANDERBIJLPARK - Vanderbijlpark residents have been without electricity since last night. The Emfuleni Local Municipality says this is due to a 30 MVA transformer that exploded and caught fire at Munic Substation. Firefighters were dispatched last night to assist with containing the fire. The municipality says the power will remain off to prevent further damages to the substation and to allow technicians an opportunity to conduct investigations. An estimated time of repair will be communicated with the community as soon as technicians have determined the full extent of the damage.
