Floods in Metsimaholo due to heavy rains
VAAL TRIANGLE - Many residents of the Metsimaholo Local Municipality have lost their personal belongings such as furniture, documents, and more due to recent floods. The Executive Mayor, Cllr Jeff Zwane, urged the residents to always be observant. The municipality is making an urgent request for residents to stay at home if they can during storms, as heavy rain and extensive flooding is causing road closures across the municipal area. Zwane says municipal teams are attending to the damage caused by the recent rainfall and floodings.
Meanwhile, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) says the unusual rainfall is expected to cause more disruptive rain for the rest of the summer and into autumn. The occurrence is known as La Niña. This is after several parts of the country has experienced flooding over the past few days. The Vaal Dam is now also over 110 percent full.
