VEREENIGING - The South African Police Service confirmed the deaths of two foreign nationals after Vereeniging residents allegedly took matters into their own hands. Vaal Journal reports Vereeniging came to a standstill on Wednesday as alleged taxi drivers closed Voortrekker road. They allegedly took matters into their own hands by attacking foreign nationals believed to be drug dealers and beating two of them to death. Police spokesperson, Sergeant Nombulelo Mohlakwana, confirmed the two deaths, saying when police officers arrived at the Vereeniging taxi rank, they found a Nigerian citizen dead and two males badly assaulted. She said the two were transferred to Kopanong hospital where one of them later passed on. Mohlakwana said they have no proof that it is taxi drivers who committed the crime, but it happened at Vereeniging taxi rank. Mohlakwana says the police are investigating the case and urges anyone with information to contact her on: 079 6946 963.
