Four suspects sentenced to spend time behind bars after trespassing in a Vanderbijlpark home
VANDERBIJLPARK - The Vanderbijlpark SAPS says the local Detective Sgt Tshidi Mokele has secured a conviction of four suspects who were arrested for trespassing in a house in Vanderbijlpark. Police spokesperson, Sergeant Gertrude Makhale, said in a statement it is usually rare for members to get convictions on trespassing cases and this shows the member’s dedication and hard work on this case. Makhale said the suspects were allegedly seen a night before by the neighbourhood pushing an alleged pram. When the owner was notified, he came the following day to find that his house was broken into. Makhale said the complainant stayed at the property until late as he feared that the suspects will return, only to find that this was indeed the case. Police were notified and the suspects were arrested for trespassing. Makhale said during sentencing, 30-year-old Mr Pretorius was sentenced to 12 months in prison or a fine of R5000, the 47-year-old Mr. Botha was sentenced 2 years in prison or a fine of R6000 while the 25-year-old Mr. Jakobus was sentenced 8 months in prison or a fine of R3000 and 28-year-old Mr. Conradie was sentenced for 12 months in prison or a fine of R5000. Makhale said this sends a message that criminals must not underestimate the seriousness of trespassing. She said this shows that our courts have realised that these people who trespass and not respect people’s property must face the long arm of the law. Vanderbijlpark Station Commander Brigadier Nikiwe Hoaeane applauded the member for her dedication and ensuring that the suspect were brought to book. PHOTO: (Vanderbijlpark SAPS)
