Gauteng motorists can expect the introduction of a new tax to pay for e-tolls
VAAL TRIANGLE - The DA in Gauteng says motorists in the province can expect the introduction of a new or increased tax to pay for e-tolls. New premier Panyaza Lesufi instructed MEC for Finance, Jacob Mamabolo to come up with a new revenue model so that the debt incurred to build the e-toll roads, could be taken away from Sanral. The DA’s Fred Nel says the party will continue with its campaign to have this unwanted system scrapped.
Meanwhile, the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa) says the scrapping of e-tolls in Gauteng can only be implemented by national government. Outa responded to new premier Panyaza Lesufi’s plans to ensure the removal of the controversial system. Outa’s Wayne Duvenage says the provincial government does not have the power to do away with the tolls. He says it isn’t going to be resolved at provincial level. Duvenage says he finds Lesufi’s statement to be strange. PHOTOS: (Supplied)
