Gauteng premier leads Human Rights Day celebrations

VAAL TRIANGLE - In honour of the victims and survivors of the 1960 Sharpeville Massacre, Gauteng Premier, Honourable David Makhura led Human Rights Day commemorative activities at the Phelindaba Cemetery in Sharpeville, and the Vereeniging City Hall this past weekend. The Premier was joined by Gauteng MEC for Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure Jacob Mamabolo, Sedibeng District Municipality (SDM) Executive Mayor, Cllr. Lerato Maloka and her Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) counterpart, Cllr Gift Moerane, SDM Speaker Cllr Andiswa Mosai, Members of the Mayoral Committee (MMCs), Councillors and other government officials. The day started with the laying of wreaths at the Phelindaba Cemetery in Sharpeville where the victims of the massacre are buried, with the commemoration later moving to the Vereeniging City Hall for a formal programme led by Premier Makhura.
