Gauteng Transport promises to take action regarding the Vereeniging Taxi Rank

VEREENIGING - After waiting almost 10 years for a new taxi rank in Vereeniging, the Road and Transport Department is once again relooking how to fix it. Speaking to eNCA, MEC Jacob Mamabolo says in the past, there was an attempt to rebuild the taxi rank, which went wrong. The MEC says his Department has appointed the Gautrain Management Agency (GMA), which is known for its state-of-the-art, high-capacity infrastructure to take over the Vereeniging Taxi Rank, and the updates made will be worth an estimated R200-million. According to eNCA, Mamabolo says the GMA and Taxi Industry have not only agreed on a two-phase approach regarding the Vereeniging Taxi Rank, but also that they must stabilise the taxi rank in the short term. According to Mamabolo the tenders for Phase-01 of the project have already been opened, at an estimated cost worth R35-million, and close on 23 August 2022.
