Consumers are reminded to fill up their vehicles’ tanks before huge fuel price increases will come into effect at midnight. The diesel price will increase by R1,43 per litre, petrol by 51c and paraffin by 77c per litre. The latest increase will take the diesel price in Gauteng to R25,49 per litre, which is a new record. This is in comparison to the price of R17,20 per litre in November last year. The latest increases are ascribed to the weak rand.

Meanwhile, the Transvaal Agricultural Union says the agricultural sector will be highly impacted by the increase in fuel prices which may compromise food security. TLU SA general manager, Bennie van Zyl says as the new planting season begins, farmers will be impacted by the input costs. He calls on government to cushion farmers’ ability for production and food security.
