After the Emfuleni Local Municipality announced the power outage in parts of Vanderbijlpark is due to theft of an 88kV earthing cable that led to suspected cable failures at the Bedworthpark Transition Yard, local groups gave the latest available updates on the situation. Residents in the SE and SW areas are still without power since last night, after the whole of Vanderbijlpark tripped at around 21:53. AfriForum Vanderbijlpark said in an update that approval has apparently been given for CBI to be paid (ELM is of course in arrears) so that new cable may be purchased. The group said repair work is hopefully expected to start today still, i.e. 16 April 2021, but a firm ETR was not yet available. The Emfuleni Rate Payer’s Association has since said that they received information earlier that the team will be on site within the next 30 minutes and work on the cable will commence. The group said they are hopeful that power will be restored today still, and while there is no guarantee, they are hopeful. The group will give updates as they receive information.
