Midvaal urges caution at the Jim Fouche bridge over the Klip River

MIDVAAL - The Midvaal Local Municipality issued a notice clarifying that they are not responsible for the bridge at Jim Fouche Street over the Klip River. This comes after MLM noted photos currently circulating of alleged danger posed by the status of the bridge. Midvaal made it clear that the bridge is the competence of Gautrans and not that of Midvaal municipality. It said it has no opinion on the status of the bridge, but motorists are encouraged to practice caution when driving. MLM also encouraged residents to refer enquiries in this regard to Gautrans. For more information or enquiries to MLM, residents can contact the Customer Complaints Line on 0861 643 8225.

Meanwhile, Ward 2 Risiville Councillor Salome Janse Van Rensburg said she has spoken to MMC Gerrit Viljoen of Engineering Services after a WhatsApp message stating that the bridge is falling apart. Janse van Rensburg says Viljoen told her that it is just expansion joints and that this is how the bridge was built. He assured her that it is not going to fall and cause an accident. She said Viljoen has also brought this under the attention of Gautrans as he had a meeting with them yesterday.
