National Minimum Wage Commission proposes an increase in domestic workers’ salary

VAAL TRIANGLE - The National Minimum Wage Commission published its annual review of the national minimum wage and included a proposal to equalize the wages of domestic workers with other employees. In the proposal document, the commission recommended that domestic workers’ minimum wage should be increased to 88 percent of the national minimum wage in 2021 and to one hundred percent in 2022. As of March, the minimum wage for domestic workers was R15.57 per hour and under the new proposals, the 88 percent increase would make the new minimum for domestic workers R19.09 per hour.
