NICD says there has been an increase in the number of influenza cases since the end of August

VAAL TRIANGLE - The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said there has been a steady increase in the number of influenza cases since the end of August, with a sharp increase at the beginning of November. Private laboratories have reported an increase in influenza case detections and the NICD has received reports of clusters of cases in schools and workplaces. The NICD said influenza A(H3N2), influenza A(H1N1), and influenza B are the virus strains that are currently common in human populations. It said an increase in case numbers has been identified in all five provinces where surveillance is conducted.
