NSRI called in to do unusual rescue at Vaal Dam

DENEYSVILLE - The National Sea Rescue Institute’s (NSRI) Vaal Dam duty crew were alerted following reports of a young donkey stranded on an island in the Vaal Dam near Deneysville in the Free State yesterday. Station commander, Jake Manten, says the animal reportedly went onto the island approximately four weeks ago when water levels were low. A vet darted it and the little one was loaded onto a special stretcher before he was taken by a rescue craft to the mainland. He has now been reunited with his overjoyed owners.
