VANDERBIJLPARK - The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) has agreed to terminate its strike at ArcelorMittal South Africa. The union went on strike earlier this month after the company announced the retrenchment of some workers.
The company and the union have since agreed that voluntary severance packages will be opened in certain areas of the business. The parties also agreed that some of the retrenched workers will be allowed to apply for new vacancies at ArceloMittal South Africa. Numsa spokesperson, Phakamile Hlubi-Majola, says the union is concerned about the potential closure of the company’s plant in KwaZulu-Natal.
