NWU Vaal Campus Grieves the Loss of Fourth-Year Student

VANDERBIJLPARK - The North-West University Vaal Campus community is mourning the loss of 22-year-old Mamohlotsi Rebecca Nchabeleng, a fourth-year BEd student, who was tragically found dead in her room at a private residence on Monday, August 19, 2024. This heartbreaking incident occurred just a day after a car accident claimed the lives of six other NWU Vaal students. chabeleng's body was discovered after police were led to her location by a suicide note left by her boyfriend, who was found dead at his home in Sharpeville. Vanderbijlpark Police Spokesperson Sergeant Sabelo Sigcu confirmed that a murder case has been opened, and investigations are ongoing. NWU Vaal Campus Executive Director of Student Life, Professor Sibusiso Chalufu, expressed deep sorrow on behalf of the university. Counselling services are being provided to Nchabeleng's family, as well as to affected students and staff during this difficult time.
