SHARPEVILLE - In a significant crackdown on illegal alcohol trade, the SAPS, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, has seized and destroyed over 3.3 million milliliters of liquor. The alcohol, confiscated from unlicensed outlets throughout the Sedibeng District, in the Vaal Triangle was dismantled at the Leeukuil Water Treatment Plant. The SAPS targeted unlicensed liquor outlets, leading to several closures and fines for non-compliant owners. Colonel Landman, overseeing the initiative, stressed that "compliance with the Liquor Act is essential to protect patrons and uphold public order. Sharpeville police spokesperson Constable Busisiwe Sango highlighted the connection between illegal alcohol sales and crimes such as theft, assault and domestic violence, affirming SAPS' commitment to community safety. Sango says this initiative aligns with South Africa’s Liquor Act, and the operation underlines the SAPS’s ongoing dedication to addressing the negative impacts of illicit alcohol distribution and enforcing responsible business practices across Sedibeng.
