VAAL TRIANGLE - Astral Foods has warned of threats to food security and growing poverty. The country’s largest chicken producer reported an 89% profit decline in the first half of the year. The group says this is primarily due to load-shedding costs and increased working capital requirements. They say the failing of state-owned enterprises such as Eskom and Transnet, further exacerbate the agricultural sector’s decline, leading to increased hunger and poverty levels.
