RTMC reminds motorists to renew expired driving licenses before deadline

VAAL TRIANGLE - The Road Traffic Management Corporation’s (RTMC) is calling on motorists whose driving license cards expired at the start of the lockdown to make arrangements now to renew their documents before 31 March next year. The Corporation says it has noticed that motorists whose driving licenses expired between 26 March and 31 August last year are not taking full advantage of the extended validity period of driving license cards to renew their documents. RTMC spokesperson, Simon Zwane, says there is sufficient capacity to address the backlog and service people.

Meanwhile the Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula, says the online booking system for drivers’ licenses, that was initially introduced in Gauteng, has provided a basis for it to be rolled out nationally to deal with the license renewal backlog. Mbalula responded to questions in the National Assembly yesterday. He says in the next few weeks they will be launching a renewed, revamped online approach where people can get an opportunity to renew their license like in Gauteng.
