Sebokeng man arrested for posting COVID-19 threat on sister’s Facebook

VAAL TRIANGLE - The SAPS says they arrested 40-year-old Tshepo Maboko after he was found to have posted a threat about spreading Covid-19 on the ‘Vaal Notice Board’ Facebook page using his sister’s account last week. Police spokesperson Brigadier Vish Naidoo says a charge of defamation of character under Covid-19 regulations has been opened against a Zone 6 Sebokeng man. Sedibeng Ster reports this follows an incident where a woman claims that her Facebook page was hacked by her brother who then posted a message about her being testing positive for the Corona Virus, although this is untrue. Naidoo says upon investigation, police found that the complainant’s brother, living at the same address, was the person who posted the lies on his sister’s Facebook account. He was subsequently arrested. Naidoo says further investigation into the matter is currently underway. Once completed, the docket will be sent back for the Senior Public Prosecutor’sconsideration. The suspect has been released on a warning by court.
