Some LiquiFruit apple juice products have been recalled over a mould toxin

VAAL TRIANGLE - Pioneer Foods has recalled some LiquiFruit apple juice products sold in South Africa, Botswana, and Namibia over concern of elevated levels of patulin, a mould toxin mainly found in rotting apples. Last week Coca-Cola recalled Appletiser products for the same reason. Pioneer Foods CEO Tertius Carstens says they identified the potential of a food safety issue, after in-house standard testing with one of their local suppliers. He says the recall is based on the presence of patulin in a concentration of more than 50 parts per billion, which is the regulatory threshold.
