VAAL TRIANGLE - The organisation Tax Justice South Africa says the extension of the cigarette ban is a green light for criminals to continue looting South Africa at the expense of decent citizens’ lives. This comes after President Cyril Ramaphosa last night announced that under level three alcohol will be sold for home consumption on specified days and hours, but the sale of tobacco remains prohibited. Tax Justice SA founder, Yusuf Abramjee, describes the decision as irrational and unworkable. He says it in effect sees the National Command Council writing a blank cheque for criminals while robbing the South African people of billions of rands that could have saved lives. Abramjee says the money could actually have been used to buy ventilators in the fight against COVID-19.
