The Emfuleni Local Municipality spent R1,6-million on suspended CFO.
EMFULENI - The Emfuleni local municipality has spent more than R1,6-million on its chief financial officer, Andile Dyakala, who has been suspended for more than a year. The municipality has also spent more than R6-million for legal matters in relation to suspended Dyakala’s case. This was revealed by Gauteng MEC for cooperative governance and traditional affairs Mzi Khumalo in a written reply on March 27 to questions from the DA in the provincial legislature. Khumalo said Since Dyakala’s suspension in March last year, he is still on the payroll of the municipality while he sat at home. Dyakala was suspended after facing allegations of unlawful extension of contracts of employees in political offices, financial misconduct amounting to wasteful and fruitless expenditure, and insulting statements on social media about senior political leaders. The DA’s Kingsol Chabalala said it is worrying that the residents of Emfuleni continue to suffer a lack of service delivery while millions are wasted on an individual sitting at home.
