The number of mothers wanting to give their babies up has tripled

VAAL TRIANGLE - Open Arms SA says the number of mothers wanting to give their babies up has tripled because of the lockdown. Where they would normally help 20 to 25 mothers a day, its operation is now looking at 50 to 60 people a day. The University of Pretoria’s associate professor of Social Work and Criminology, Reineth Prinsloo, says the Covid-19 pandemic has led to more challenges, including an increase in abandoned babies and foetuses found in dustbins, dumps and ditches.
