The unemployment rate increases to 32.9%.

VAAL TRIANGLE - South Africa’s official unemployment rate increased by 0.2 of a percentage point to 32.9% in the first quarter of this year. In numbers this means there were 179,000 more unemployed people in the first quarter compared to the fourth quarter of last year. Jobs were mainly lost in private households, trade, mining and construction. Stats SA says the number of unemployed people increased from 4.9 million in the first quarter of 2013 to 7.9 million 10 years later. In the past 10 years graduate unemployment increased from 5.5% to 10.6%.
