Three killed, seven injured in R59 accident this morning - road had to be closed

VAAL TRIANGLE - Paramedics say three people were killed and seven others injured, including five children, when a truck and taxi collided on the R59 between Sasolburg and Vereeniging. ER24 said in a statement their paramedics arrived on the scene at 03:45 this morning to find the taxi on its side next to the road, while the truck was found parked a short distance away. Three adults had sustained fatal injuries and unfortunately, nothing could be done for them. All three adults were declared dead on the scene. Upon assessment of the other patients, it was found that two adults and five children sustained minor to moderate injuries. The patients were treated and then transported to Sasolburg Provincial Hospital for further care.

This comes after Vaal Traffic issued a notice at around 06:00 this morning that the R59 between Ascot On Vaal and Vaalpark had been closed for traffic due to a serious accident. It is unclear when the road would be open again, but motorists had been urged to avoid the area. ER24 says local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
