Two arrested, drugs and cash recovered in Meyerton

MEYERTON - The Sedibeng District SAPS says two suspects were arrested for the possession of and dealing in drugs in Meyerton on Monday, 22 May 2023. Sedibeng District Communication Officer Captain Fikile Funda yesterday said in a statement sent to 90.6 FM News that an intelligence driven operational exercise was executed specifically in Sicelo, Meyerton, by a District Task Team. Funda said dagga weighing about 7kg with a street value of R5,000, 15 sachets of Cristal Methanol with a street value of R3,000 and cash money which is believed to have been genereted from criminal activity were recovered. He said the community suggested that the two suspects who were apprehended are very well known culprits in the area. However, acting Sedibeng District Commissioner brigadier Mbangwa Nkhwashu says there is still resistance from the community with an intent to protect these drug dealers. Nkhwashu says as they focus on proactive measures to address the drugs issue in the area, they must deal with those selling and suppress the market. He appealed to the community to continue working with police by reporting drug dens and illegal activities in the area, so police can deal with them. Nkhwashu says this will in turn contribute in creation of a safer environment for all.
