COVID-19 STATS IN THE VAAL AND GREATER GAUTENG AREA:
Gauteng Premier David Makhura says there has been a change in the geography of hotspots for COVID-19 in the province, mentioning the Vaal in his address as well. Addressing the media on the province’s COVID-19 response and lockdown compliance, among other issues, the premier said there has been a shift in the concentration of cases from suburbs to townships. Makhura says there are now clear signs of emerging hotspots in townships in areas such as Vanderbijlpark, Orange Farm, Ennerdale, Soweto, Alexandra, kwaThema, Soshanguve, and Pretoria West, among other areas. There are currently 28 confirmed cases in Sedibeng, an increase of two since the last announcement, while 10 recoveries have been recorded. Makhura further said the lockdown has worked for us and that this is extremely important because there was a point where the numbers were 42 on average, but it has now dropped significantly.
