Vaaldam hits 100% after being at 25% two months ago

VAAL TRIANGLE - Residents in the north of South Africa are celebrating the fact that the Vaal Dam has reached 100% of its capacity after it had reached only around 25% of its water level in December. The dam on the border between Gauteng and the Free State filled up gradually over the past two months thanks to record levels of rainfall in its catchment areas. The Department of Water and Sanitation says the Bloemhof Dam, also in the Vaal River, is currently standing on 106%, while the Gariep Dam and the Van der Kloof Dam in the Orange River are also overflowing.
