Vereeniging police urge filling station shops to close earlier

VEREENIGING - The Vereeniging SAPS is urging filling station shops to close earlier due to the drastic hike in robberies taking place in and around the city. Police spokesperson, Captain Fikile Funda, urged filling station shops to close around 20:00 in the evenings, or to sell from the petrol cashier window, to eliminate direct contact with cashiers. Funda further warns residents in Vereeniging to not leave any valuables in their cars, adding that the theft of vehicles is still rife in the Three Rivers area. He said 43 suspects were recently arrested in Vereeniging for various crimes, including possession of drugs, driving under the influence, dealing in drugs, shoplifting, possession of suspected stolen property, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, theft, public violence, house break-in and theft, contempt of court, malicious damage to property and common robbery. Funda urged the community to anonymously report all criminal activities that they might be aware of to Crime Stop on 0861 10111 or report using the MySAPS App. PHOTO: (Supplied)
