Vereeniging SAPS says a pupil was stabbed and killed yesterday

VEREENIGING - The Vereeniging SAPS says an 18-year-old pupil from General Smuts High School in Vereeniging was stabbed and killed yesterday. Police spokesperson, Captain Fikile Funda, told the 90.6 FM News Team this morning that the 18-year-old deceased was allegedly walking to the taxi rank from school when he was confronted by the 17-year-old suspect in Merriman Street, Vereeniging. Funda said the suspect then took out a knife and stabbed the deceased once in the chest. According to Funda, the deceased was taken to Mediclinic by an ambulance, but he was unfortunately certified dead upon arrival at the hospital. Funda said the suspect was arrested in the presence of his parents and detained by the Vereeniging SAPS. Police also found the murder weapon on the suspect and booked it in the exhibit register. Funda confirmed to 90.6 FM News that they are investigating a case of murder.

Meanwhile Vaal Journal reports that the one learner from the school allegedly took another learner's cap, and the victim's brother along with his friends from zone 11 Sebokeng then headed to General Smuts High School to confront the perpetrator. According to the report, a fight erupted and the deceased was allegedly trying to stop the fight when he was stabbed. Vaal Journal alleged that the deceased was stabbed by a learner from Thuto Tiro in Sebokeng, Vaal Triangle. Vaal Times also reported this morning that parents are today demanding to be addressed by the principal.
