Vereeniging SAPS warns vehicle theft is still rife in Three Rivers

VEREENIGING - The Vereeniging SAPS has again warned that the theft of motor vehicles is still rife in Three Rivers. Police spokesperson, Captain Fikile Funda, said in a statement that thieves especially target VW Polo’s, Nissan NP 2OO’s and 4X4 vehicles of any make. Funda further said police arrested three suspects after a planned business robbery in the Vereeniging CBD. He said police received information of a group of suspects planning the robbery and police spotted a vehicle that fits the given description of the car. Police stopped the car and searched the vehicle after getting permission from the suspects. Funda said police found a 9mm pistol with a police badge and a filed off serial number. The suspects could not give an account for why they had the pistol. All three suspects were arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm.
