VANDERBIJLPARK - Gauteng police say one armed robber was shot dead and two others arrested following a shootout with police officers responding to a robbery in Vanderbijlpark on Friday evening. Police News24 reports spokesperson, Captain Kay Makhubela, said the robbers had forced their way into a house in SE3, Vanderbijlpark, late Friday evening, where they found the home’s occupants praying. Makhubele said the robbers proceeded to rob the occupants of their cellphones, house keys and a student card. He said one of the occupants of the home managed to get away from the robbers and approached a police vehicle at a nearby truck stop, informing them that they were being robbed. Police gave chase and a shootout between the police and robbers ensued, leaving one robber dead. Makhubele said two suspects, aged 23 and 32, had been arrested on charges of robbery. The age of the deceased is not known. According to Makhubele, police also recovered the getaway vehicle, as well as two firearms and a knife.
